Montreal based La Moustache created this charming chalk-on-buildings spot for Gaz Metro.

Dale Hayward tells us about the project:

“The spot was mostly home made chalk on brick wall (or on a few shots, chalk on foam core and then composited into the shot) with the exception of the waterfall shot which was tempera paint sprayed on the building. We pre-animated all the elements in After Effects and 2D, then projected the animations frame by frame on to the surfaces we were drawing on.

“This allowed us to be exact with our animation on a limited eight hour time frame because the on-set shots were during the night and the summer doesn’t give you much time. The waterfall was again an exception, there was no reference like the other shots, so it was just Sylvie and myself on the ground with the vid assist yelling up at fred who was painting in the lift as to where to paint. Crazy gig, but a lot of fun.”
