German animation studio TRIKK17 brings us Chika, a poignant tale about a young Jewish boy, his dog Chika, and his family in Poland during the Nazi regime. The film is based on a true story and a children’s book of a survivor and witness of the Holocaust.

At some point in the story, the young boy is forced to separate from his faithful pet, and hide in a basement to avoid being discovered by the brute forces. We won’t give away the ending but it’s quite possible Chika becomes the heroine and saves the day. We hope. Also hoping to find a release with subtitles once this makes it our way, although without we can still appreciate the artistry and sentiment.
