New York based street artist Swoon, Filmmaker Cat Solen and Time Lapse Artist Joel Fox collaborated on this making-of video of Swoon’s ‘Ice Queen’ installation—part of ‘Art in the Streets,’ an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Solen used a multi-plane camera to shoot the stop motion bits at Dragon Studios, Ojai, California. Joel Fox shot the site construction of Swoon’s piece at The Levi’s Workshops—a series of venues dedicated to creative production and collaboration. The Film Workshop celebrates the craft of filmmaking and the other arts raised in the streets of Los Angeles.

They have set up two dedicated Dragon Stop Motion animation stations for visitors to the show to try their hand at creating stop motion films. The booths are open for use throughout the duration of the show at the Geffen Contemporary April 17–August 8, 2011.

The ‘Ice Queen’ was constructed over the course of about a month, this immersive mixed media sculpture stands at 15 feet tall, inviting viewers within the tent-like structure to explore its intricate details.
