Dare we say, Director Mizuki Kawano has really nailed it with this piece, produced by Yuma Takayama of Taiyokikaku Co., Ltd. We instantly recognize impeccable lighting, sound design and subtle elegance in the clean simple presentation, but then we go down the rabbit hole as we are drawn in with the gargantuan presence and alchemy of the minuscule. This microscopic madness was created with a total of 521 replacement “nails”, measuring 0.56 mm at their thinnest.
They were designed by master Manicurist, Hatsuki Furutani. Computer graphics artists produced the animation data based on the designs and they were then manufactured by a full color 3D printer “ProJet 660 Pro”. It is difficult to keep a playful, spontaneous feel with such a technologically heavy process, but that is the miracle of well crafted inspired animation. No CG was used nor harmed in the final making of the film, which you can watch, if you ‘press-on’ and read further. You are sure to be transformed.
