You may think you have heard the tale of the girl who goes out wandering in the woods by herself to collect firewood, but I assure you, this is not that tale. In a story filled with mystery and unexplained circumstances, Melendez takes us into a darker side of the cold forest where things aren’t always as they seem.
Technically, Zepo is very impressive as each frame is meticulously crafted with colored sand on glass. The choice of sand as a medium is a nice contrast to the cold snowy environment, but also synonymous with the granules of snow that fill the environment. Minimal, desaturated colors give the piece a somber, yet foreboding sensibility.
